About me

Sarah Williamson is a fine artist working with photography to create painterly seascapes inspired by the emotional beauty, colour, and atmosphere of the coast.

Based on the Lancashire coast, she spent over 35 years in design and brand management before dedicating her time fully to her photographic practice. She now travels to remote coastal locations — often in Scotland — drawn to the changing light, energy, and quiet presence of the sea.

Her work is shaped by an Impressionist sensibility, using intentional camera movement, layered textures, and carefully developed colour to create dreamlike interpretations of the landscape. Rather than documenting a scene, she expresses how a place feels — capturing moments of stillness, solitude, and emotional depth.

Describing herself as “a visual artist with a camera,” Williamson creates images that sit between photography and painting, guided by intuition and personal connection. Each work begins in the landscape and is then carefully developed through a considered post-processing practice, where colour, texture, and atmosphere are thoughtfully shaped to express her deep love of colour and the emotions it evokes. Her work is often described as calm and contemplative, inviting a sense of peace and reflection while conveying the powerful beauty of the natural world.

“When I stand before the sea — watching waves break against the shore or walking into a storm — I feel small, immersed, and connected to something greater. That feeling shapes everything I create.”
